Thousands of people on Sunday participated in the funeral prayers of slain Jaish-e- Mohammad militant Mukhtar Ahmed Lone alias Bita Mulvi at his ancestral village in Amirabad of Tral sub-division of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The mourners raised slogans in favor of Kashmir’s freedom as the body of Mukhtar was being carried towards the local martyrs’ graveyard for burial.
At least three rounds of funeral prayers were offered for him at Shah-e-Hamdan ground at Amirabad.
A resident who particpated in the last rites said the villagers remembered Mukhtar by the name of Omar Mukhtar (renowned Libyan resistance leader). “He was brave, gutsy and helpful,” said the resident.
Dozens of women showered a plateful of candies over his body from the rooftops and windows of their homes amid pro-freedom slogans and Taranas (anthems).
