Police vehicle damaged in Sopore IED blast, JeM claims responsibility

Srinagar: A police vehicle was damaged in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast on Kupwara-Sopore road near Nathipora in north Kashmir’s Baramulla on Monday.

Official sources told GNS that the vehicle was part of police escort carrying inmates from Kupwara district jail to a court in Sopore for hearing in connection with a case when the blast occurred.

But police claimed to have detected the device and defused it.

SSP Sopore Javaid Iqbal told local news gathering agency GNS that the security forces detected the IED placed on the roadside by militants in the area.

Later, the IED was defused by Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) without causing any damage, the SSP said.

Meanwhile, Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit claimed responsibility for the IED blast in Sopore town on government forces.

“Several Indian security force personnel were injured and the vehicle also got damaged in the blast at Nathipora,” a spokesman of the militant organization told GNS in a statement issued here.
