Investigations reveal he worked in AIIMS despite being 12th pass, married 5 women
Srinagar: A man impersonating as a doctor with army and a scientist with NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), who has allegedly abandoned five women after marrying them and also extorted money from other people, has fallen in police net.
The accused, identified as Tahir Ahmad Bukhari, a resident of Waskura Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, was arrested by police from Maharastra.
According to police Bukhari, who used a pseudo name as Dr Syed Ishan Bukhari, was arrested following a complaint from a man from Handwara from whom the accused introduced himself as a doctor with army working in Orissa and later exhorted huge money.
During the course of investigation, the police found that that Bukhari married 5 women, four of them from outside, and later abandoned them after exhorting money from them. He was also in conversation with six more girls from as many states and had also trapped them for marriage purposes.
Bukhari, who possesses two Adhaar cards from as many states, was arrested by a special team of Handwara police constituted on the directions of SSP Handwara Ghulam Jeelani headed by SDPO Handwara Shabir Khan. The police contacted their counterparts in Maharastra who arrested Bukhari. Later a police team from Handwara police station was rushed to the Maharastra who brought the accused to Valley. “Further investigations are underway,” police said.
Police said that the Ishan had managed to get forged neuro surgery MBBS certificates from popular colleges of Canada, Egypt and London.
On these certificates, he was impersonating as a doctor and even practiced as a doctor at famous AIIMS hospital in Delhi and Rainbow hospital in Pune.
During investigations it has surfaced that he has only passed 12 class examination and thereafter got fake certificates from different medical colleges.
According to police, Ishan was treating a cancer patient of UP Baraly few months ago in his clinic, however, the patient later died.
The complainant, Manzoor Ahmad, told police that he met the accused some three months ago on social media and he posed as an army officer belonging to Orissa. During the course of time, the accused would share Hadith (sayings of prophet (SAW)) and highlighted, through text or videos messages, various problems facing Muslims and allegedly atrocities committed on them in various parts of India.
“(The accused) then started to contact me and would bring in discussions with regard to Islam and need for uplifting of the Muslim community,” Manzoor said.
One day, Manzoor said, Bukhari called him and offered help in the name of God in recruiting a group of people. “He asked for their documents relevant to job as well as their photographs,” Manzoor said, adding that the applicant collected documents of several persons and provided to him.
After few days, Manzoor said, he received a call from the accused wherein he asked for Rs 15000 each as “processing charges” and provided account number to deposit the money.
“That I collected the amount and subsequently deposited in the account number provided by the person,” Manzoor said. After there was no contact with the accused, Manzoor grew worried and subsequently filed the complaint with the police station.
The police swung into action and started the inquest, leading to some mindboggling facts. The police found that the accused has married five women and has children. The latest of the victims of the accused has three months old baby.
Of the five women married by the accused belong to Odisa, two are from Maharastra, one from Barily Utter Pradesh and two are from Kashmir—one of them from Handwara and another belong to Srinagar. He is said to have exhorted rupees seven lakh from one of the woman besides gold worth three lakhs. He is said to have taken Rs four lakh from woman from Rajasthan.
Another woman (name withheld), a resident of Utter Pradesh said that the accused met her through matrimonial site in 2014 and after one year, they got married. “He introduced himself a doctor with army and during the course of time, the accused would torture me and threaten to share personal videos on internet if I reveal it to anybody.”
During investigations it has also surfaced that he used to contact girls through matrimonial sites.
Meanwhile, local populace of Handwara and all the girls who he duped in Kashmir or outside sate on pretext of marriages, employment, MBBS admission hailed police action.
“If this criminal would have not been arrested, Allah knows life of how many more girls he would have destroyed”, Bashir Ahmad a local said.
A girl from UP hailed police Handwara for arresting the criminal and demanded the stern action against him.
“I have filed many complaints against him but police in UP or in Delhi never arrested him as he was impersonating as a defence doctor”, she said and appealed police Handwara to expose the self styled “NASA scientist and the doctor.”
Bukhari also used to visit famous shrines and pull people around, then sing Qawwali and collect money. He also used to present himself as Peer (saint) and used to visit far flung areas in various states, offering to exorcise evil spirit, ghosts etc from them.
Soon after arresting him, Handwara police received number of complaints from locals as well as people from outside and have started investigation into all complaints. (GNS)
