Srinagar: A Panchayat Ghar was damaged in a fire incident in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Friday evening.

However, official sources told news agency GNS that it was not immediately known whether it was set on fire by anyone or blaze erupted due to some other reasons.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam Shridhar Patil confirmed the fire incident and said that blaze has been controlled.

“We have taken cognizance of the incident. FIR has been lodged and investigations were taken up,” SSP told GNS.

Asked about the cause of the fire, the police officer said: “Cause of the fire is not known, we have taken cognizance and would be known through investigations”.

This is the second Panchayat Ghar that has been gutted in last little over a week in south Kashmir.

On March 07, Panchayat Ghar was damaged in a fire incident in Shopian district. (GNS)
