Srinagar: A junior commissioned officer of army was killed when a patrolling party of soldiers came under fire at Drang village of Budgam district, a defence spokesperson said here said.
Col Rajesh Kalia, the spokesperson, said that JCO Raj Kumar sustained bullet injury during a late night operation in Drang village of Khag Tehsil in Budgam district when an army patrol was out for patrolling. “He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to hospital but unfortunately succumbed to the injury,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Army today paid befitting tribute to the slain JCO. “In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks, paid homage to the martyr on behalf of a proud nation. In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects,” the spokesperson added. (GNS)
