‘Widespread destruction has left dozens of business men in desperate condition’
Srinagar: Syed Ali Geelani expressed deep grief over fire incident in Sopore in which a restaurant and dozens of business establishments were gutted, saying that widespread destruction has left dozens of business men in desperate condition. He appealed the affluent class of the society to generously donate to help these victims so that their sufferings are minimized to some extent.
Meanwhile Syed Ali Geelani said that the shutdown call given by business community against drug menace is right and justified as whole town has been turned into a hub for drug trafficking and other undesirable and immoral activities.
People and particularly those living in Sopor town should take notice of this and take situation seriously. Those at the helm of affairs are promoting these activities through administration and with the help of men in uniform, Geelani added.
The waywardness, liquor trade and drug menace are off shoots of forced occupation and unless we stand against this illegal occupation and evils, our dignity and honor is at stake.
Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday also expressed his deep grief over the demise of Mother of Nazir Ahmad Kanjal, mother in law of prominent writer Ikram -ul-Hassan and aunt of Nasir Ahmad Khan (journalist).
Syed Ali Geelani prayed for heavenly aboard for departed soul and forbiddance and patience for the grieved family to bear this irreparable loss.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (G) condemned continuous arrests and house detention of political leaders and activists, saying that authorities have virtually declared martial law in state and added political leaders are denied political space and strangulating the genuine voices of people.
Statement while denouncing state authorities for their autocratic and egoistic rule, said that Syed Ali Geelani has been in continuous since past 8 years and Mirwaiz Mohd Umer Farooq and Mohd Ashraf Sehrai were again placed house arrest while as Huriyat spokesman Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani, Mohd Yasin Ataie and Syed Imtiyaz Hyder were detained in police stations.
Hurriyat said that state authorities have turned whole state into a big prison, saying since the inception of present coalition regime the authorities have surpassed all previous records. (KNS)
