Concluding the week-long programme in furtherance of Ageing with Dignity campaign, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag celebrated “World Elder Abuse Awareness Day” today by organising a Multi-Service camp for senior citizens in collaboration with Health Department, Social Welfare Department and Municipal Council Anantnag at Town Hall Anantnag.
More than 100 senior citizens and 100 students participated in the programme. A free medical camp consisting of Physician, ENT Specialist, Orthopedican, Dentist and other specialists was organised. A thorough medical checkup of 35 senior citizens was done in the camp. Free medicine was provided to the senior citizens by DLSA Anantnag.
A Social welfare stall was also setup by Social Welfare Department Anantnag which provided necessary help and guidance to the senior citizens with respective to their grievances. Hearing aid equipments were provided to five senior citizens by the social welfare department Anantnag.
A legal service stall was also setup in the camp which was managed by PLV’s and Retainer Lawyer Adv. Shajina Shafi, who also provided legal assistance to the various senior citizens for redressal of their grievances.
The students from Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Anantnag performed a skit on the theme of programme. The students of Delhi Public School Sangam Anantnag who had been winners of the drawing cum slogan writing competition held on 11 June 2019 by Tehsil Legal Services Committee Bijbehara were also felicitated in the concluding programme.
Secretary DLSA Anantnag Rafia Hassan Khaki also sensitised the audience comprising of senior citizens, media, lawyers and general public about Elder Abuse Awareness and Intergeneration Bonding.
In the second part of the programme a debate competition on topic “Ageing with Dignity” was organized in which students from Government Girls Higher Secondary School Anantnag and from a Private School participated and the best speakers were awarded mementos.
