Boat carrying 2 officers capsizes in Chenab River, both rescued

Water sports events cancelled

Jammu: Two senior government officers were rescued on Saturday after a boat carrying them capsized due to strong water currents in Doda district of Chenab region.

Official sources told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhaderwah Development Authority (BDA) and Assistant Director Tourism Doda were rescued on Saturday from river Chenab at Pul Doda area when a boat carrying them capsized.

“Two of the trapped officers of the tourism department were rescued and evacuated to safety,” SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir told GNS.

He identified the rescued officers as CEO Bhaderwah Dr. Rajinder Khajuria and Assistant Director Tourism Doda Shazia Bano.

Bhaderwah Development Authority in collaboration with tourism department was scheduled to organise an adventure tourism festival from March 19 and white river rafting.

Now, after the accident, it has been decided to cancel all water sports events on river Chenab and a letter has been shot to higher-ups in this connection.
