Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, the head of militant outfit Al-Umar Mujahideen, on Friday said that from 7 p.m. Thursday inmates at central jail Srinagar have been subjected to “worst kind of atrocities and maltreatment” by firing teargas shells and pellets against them.
“After blasphemy with holy Quran by government forces, there were some words exchanged by inmates following which they were subjected to worst kind atrocities and maltreatment.
Teargas shells have and pellets have been fired against the inmates,” Zargar said in a tele-statement to GNS.
“This kind of behavior inside jails in unacceptable. Jail authorities also live in Kashmir and they should not compel us to act against them.”
He said not only in central jail Srinagar, but inmates are also being ill-treated. “Burn my home but I will not hold back and will continue to pursue freedom struggle,” he said, adding, “Those talking about dialogue as means to address Kashmir dispute are living in fool’s paradise. There is only one solution to Kashmir dispute and that is through the gun and nothing else.”
