Training for rural youth for army rowing

Bandipora. In order to meet the long outstanding demands of civil population, especially the youth in the area of Zirimunz for providing them an opportunity to prove their talent in rowing, the local youth of village Zirimunz were selected and sent for further training and selection to Grenadiers Regimental Centre, Jabalpur on 05 Sep 2017.

The aim of the tour was to provide quality training for rowing and subsequent recruitment into Army through sports quota. The event was carried out by Army Camp, Paribal (under The aegis of Wular Garrison) through Sadhbhavana. A total of 10 local youths from Zirimunz village were sent alongwith one Junior Commissioned Officer and one Non Commissioned Officer to Jabalpur. They will undergo four weeks of training after which they would be tested for their performance and subsequent absorption into Indian Army.

The journey was flagged off from Paribal by Brigadier V Hariharan, Commander Wular Sector. The commander addressed the youth with words that clearly explained the advantages and their future in rowing.

In a militancy prone area where there is lack of development, awareness and less support, such steps will aid in guiding the youth in a positive direction and will also motivate the youth in nearby villages to participate in large numbers. Conduct of such events, will not only create a optimistic psyche in the youth but will also enhance the strong affability between local populace and Indian Army.
